SFA turns down approach for Scotland manager McLeish

GLASGOW (AFP) — The Scottish Football Association (SFA) have rejected an official approach, believed to have come from Birmingham, to talk to national team manager Alex McLeish.

The former Rangers and Hibs boss has been touted as one of the favourites to take over from the departed Steve Bruce at the Midlands club following his impressive albeit futile efforts to qualify Scotland for Euro 2008.

He has so far been non-committal although he has made it clear that one day he would like to take charge of a Premier league side in England.

SFA chief executive Gordon Smith said in The Sun: "Yes we have had an official approach for our manager.

"We don't want to discuss it at all, so the club involved has been advised they cannot have permission to speak to...
