Real Betis sack coach Hector Cuper

SEVILLE (AFP) — Relegation-threatened Spanish first division side Real Betis have sacked coach Hector Cuper, the club announced via its web site on Monday.

Cuper was dismissed after their latest loss, a 2-0 home defeat to Atletico Madrid on Sunday.

The Seville-based club, which played in the Champions League two years ago after finishing fourth in La Liga the season before, is second from bottom in with only two wins from 14 matches.

"Cuper has proven himself to be a gentleman throughout his time at the head of the team. It is the results that have been the reason for his departure," said Betis in a statement published on their official web site.

The 52-year-old Argentine, who has also coached Valencia and Inter Milan among others, joined the club in the summer..
