Iran expels Canadian ambassador to Tehran: Canada FM

OTTAWA (AFP) — Iran has expelled Canada's ambassador to Tehran in an "entirely unjustifiable" move, Foreign Minister Maxime Bernier said Monday.
"Canada regrets the decision of the government of Iran to order our ambassador to leave Tehran, which is entirely unjustifiable," Bernier said in a statement.
He said the expulsion resulted from an impasse between the two countries over Ottawa's failure to approve Iran's proposed diplomatic representation to Canada.
"Canada and Iran have tried to come to an agreement on an exchange of ambassadors for some time. Unfortunately, we have as yet been unable to accept the candidates Tehran has submitted," he said.
"We believe that the expulsion of our ambassador is an unfortunate and unjustified consequence of this situation," the foreign minister said, adding that Canada's diplomatic business in Tehran would now be handled by the embassy's charge d'affaires.
