Scottish leaders should rescue Trump golf plans: MPs

LONDON (AFP) — The Scottish government should rescue plans by US tycoon Donald Trump for a luxury golf resort by over-ruling a council vote blocking the project, lawmakers said Wednesday.

First Minister Alex Salmond, reportedly angry at the rejection of the one-billion-pound (two-billion-dollar, 1.4-billion-euro) project, invoked rarely-used rules to broach the issue with ministers and national lawmakers.

The matter, rejected by a local council committee last week, was discussed Wednesday by the economy, energy and tourism committee of the Scottish Assembly in Edinburgh.
