Kiefer Sutherland gets 48-day jail term for driving drunk

LOS ANGELES, California (AFP) — Actor Kiefer Sutherland was hit with a 48-day jail term by a Los Angeles court on Wednesday after pleading no contest to drunk driving.

The 40-year-old star of hit television series "24" was also ordered to spend five years on probation in connection with the incident on September 25, when he was caught with a blood alcohol level more than three times above the drunk-drive limit.

Sutherland had pleaded no contest to the charge at a hearing in October, where Los Angeles prosecutor Rocky Delgadillo requested that the actor be given a custodial sentence.

The actor was already on probation for another drunk driving violation in 2004 when he was stopped in September.
