Marbury to miss Knicks game against Mavericks

NEW YORK (AFP) — New York guard Stephon Marbury was inactive Monday for the Knicks' National Basketball Association contest against Dallas, as he continues to come to terms with the death of his father.

"We'll give him as much time as he needs," Knicks coach Isiah Thomas said. "This a tough thing for him to overcome."

Donald Marbury Snr died of a heart attack after attending the Knicks' game against Phoenix at Madison Square Garden on December 2.

Marbury missed the Knicks' game against the New Jersey Nets the next Wednesday, but returned for two weekend games against the Philadelphia 76ers, both of which New York lost.

In Saturday's 105-77 loss to Philadelphia, Marbury scored only six points in 24 minutes.
