LONDON (AFP) — More adults in Britain use social networking sites such as Facebook and MySpace than in any other European country, a report published by its communications watchdog said Wednesday.
Some 39 percent of Britons used the sites in 2006 compared with 22 percent of people in Italy, 17 percent in France and 12 percent in Germany.
Outside Europe, the figures were much higher, according to the Office of Communications (Ofcom) report -- 53 percent of Canadians used the sites, 34 percent of people in the United States and 32 percent in Japan.
Britons also top the league for frequency of visits and amount of time spent on the sites. They clock up an average of 23 visits per month and spend 5.3 hours visiting in the same time period.
