Celtic told McFadden bid a non-starter

GLASGOW (AFP) — Celtic have been told not to waste their time making a January transfer window bid for Everton's Scotland star James McFadden.

Both the Scottish champions and Birmingham reportedly covet the services of the winger who was outstanding for his national team in their Euro 2008 qualifying campaign.

But although he has never been a regular starter for Everton, the Merseyside club are adamant that they want to keep the 24-year-old.

"I haven't spoken to the manager but no approach from Celtic has come through me or the club," said Everton chief executive Keith Wyness.

"James McFadden is under contract to Everton and we have made it clear we don't want to sell him.
