CHARLOTTE, North Carolina (AFP) — Dallas Cowboys receiver Terrell Owens has a high ankle sprain, confirmed by an MRI exam on Sunday according to a report on the Dallas Morning News website.

Owens was hurt on Saturday night in the Cowboys' victory over the Carolina Panthers.

There is no timetable for the star wide receiver's return, but he is likely to sit out the season finale at Washington next week as the Cowboys prepare for their playoff campaign.

Owens has caught 81 passes for 1,355 yards and 15 touchdowns this season.

The Cowboys improved to 13-2 with their win over the Panthers, and secured the No. 1 seed and home-field advantage throughout the playoffs when the Green Bay Packers lost to the Chicago Bears 35-7 on Sunday.
