Glasgow Rangers delighted as Hutton snubs Spurs

GLASGOW (AFP) — Rangers defender Alan Hutton has rejected the chance to join Tottenham after the Premier League club had an eight million pounds bid accepted for the Scotland star.

Hutton's impressive displays for club and country persuaded Spurs to make the big-money offer and Rangers reluctantly agreed it was too good to turn down.

But Hutton, 23, delighted boss Walter Smith by deciding to stay with the Scottish club.

"We received a bid from Tottenham which was reluctantly accepted, but the player himself wants to remain at Rangers," Smith said. "From a footballing perspective that is good news.

"He has been doing so well for us that we didn't want to lose him. We still have someone who has been one of our best players.
