Hawaiian teen Fujikawa seeks big payday at PGA Sony Open

HONOLULU, Hawaii (AFP) — Hawaiian prodigy Tadd Fujikawa, a 17-year-old standout who last year became the youngest player in half a century to make a US PGA cut, will be the center of attention when the Sony Open starts Thursday.

The junior at Moanalua High who turned 17 Tuesday finished 20th at the event last year as an amateur and would have taken home more than 54,000 dollars had he been a professional, a status he declared six months ago.

Fujikawa knows the scenic Waialae Country Club course well and likes how he is playing as he pursues a big payday at the 5.3 million-dollar event.
