Luongo to skip NHL All-Star Game for pregnant wife

VANCOUVER, Canada (AFP) — Vancouver Canucks goaltender Roberto Luongo announced Wednesday that he will miss the National Hockey League All-Star Game later this month to spend time with his pregnant wife Gina.

Luongo, who on Tuesday was named the starting goaltender for the Western Conference in the January 27 showdown against Eastern Conference rivals, will travel across North America to be with his wife. Their baby is due in April.

"I struggled with this decision but I think family right now is more important to me and this is a good opportunity for me to spend some time with my wife and the baby," Luongo said.

Luongo is 20-12 with three regulation-time draws this season and his 1.96 goals-against average ranks second in the NHL to Detroit's Chris Osgood....
