Cautious Grant puts away the cheque book

LONDON (AFP) — Avram Grant insisted Chelsea would adopt a cautious approach during the January transfer window after a 2-0 home win over Tottenham maintained his side's Premier League title challenge.

A first-half strike from Juliano Belletti and a second goal ten minutes from full-time by Shaun Wright-Phillips on Saturday made it three wins in a week for Chelsea, who gave a debut to 15 million pounds forward Nicolas Anelka.

Anelka - signed from Bolton on Friday - came on as a second-half substitute for the injured Claudio Pizarro and made an immediate impact, forcing an excellent one-handed save from Spurs goalkeeper Radek Cerny before hitting the crossbar in stoppage time.
