Baseball star Clemens lawyer reluctant about deposition: report

WASHINGTON (AFP) — Roger Clemens' attorney disputed a report Sunday that said the star baseball pitcher is reluctant to give US lawmakers a deposition this week ahead of a hearing on steroid accusations.

Citing unnamed sources, the ESPN network reported that lawyer Rusty Hardin does not want his client to submit to questions under oath and will speak with House of Representatives Oversight Committee members Monday.

"He will be doing a disservice to his client if he (allows him to be deposed)," said Earl Ward, the attorney for Clemens accuser Brian McNamee who spoke to ESPN.

McNamee, Clemens' long-time fitness trainer, told an investigation by former US Senator George Mitchell that he injected Clemens with steroids.
