McGhee and Burley to talk to SFA about coaching job

GLASGOW (AFP) — Motherwell manager Mark McGhee and Southampton boss George Burley have been granted permission to talk to the Scottish Football Association (SFA) about the vacant Scotland coaching job.

McGhee and Burley are believed to be on a four-man short-list alongside Tommy Burns and Graeme Souness. The post has been vacant since late November when Alex McLeish resigned to take over as coach at Birmingham City.

Souness is currently out of the game, while the SFA have asked Celtic for their consent to speak to Bhoys coach Burns.

McGhee held talks with Motherwell owner John Boyle late Tuesday, and the club announced they had given the 50-year-old the green light to talk to the SFA.
