Lebanese progress toward ending presidential deadlock: Mussa

BEIRUT (AFP) — Rival Lebanese leaders made some progress on Thursday toward breaking a long-running deadlock over electing a new president, Arab League Secretary General Amr Mussa said.

Mussa was speaking after hosting a meeting of parliamentary majority leader Saad Hariri, key opposition leader Michel and former president Amin Gemayel, a member of the ruling majority.

"The Lebanese leaders touched on all the matters that need to be resolved and reached agreement on several points," Mussa said after the three-hour meeting, without spelling out what those points were.

"There are still some matters that need further discussion, and we agreed to meet again after my return from Damascus" at the weekend, Mussa added.
