BlueStar plans new methionine plant in China: report

BEIJING (AFP) — France's Adisseo Group, an animal feed additive producer and subsidiary of China National Bluestar Corporation, will build a new plant to produce the amino acid methionine, Chinese media said.

A report late Friday by the state-run Xinhua news agency said the plant would be set up in the petrochemical industrial area of Tianjin, 120 kilometres (75 miles), east of Beijing, where the raw materials are available.

The plant would be operational by 2011 with an initial capacity of 70,000 tonnes, it said.

Gerard Deman, Adisseo's chief executive, was quoted as saying existing production could not meet international demand, especially in Asia.
