US tour caddie Duplantis dies in road accident

SAN DIEGO, California (AFP) — Steve Duplantis, a popular PGA Tour caddie, was killed Wednesday when he was struck by a car while crossing a road on foot, local authorities said.

Duplantis, who had caddied for former major winners Jim Furyk and Rich Beem, was known as one of the most colorful characters on the PGA Tour.

The 35-year-old Canadian was killed in Del Mar, California, north of the site of this week's Buick Invitational at Torrey Pines.
