Tottenham set to beat Newcastle to Woodgate

NEWCASTLE, England (AFP) — Newcastle look set to miss out on Middlesbrough's Jonathan Woodgate to Tottenham despite having an offer accepted for the England defender.

Woodgate has been given permission to talk to both teams but Newcastle boss Kevin Keegan admitted his club don't expect to complete a deal.

"I wanted Jonathan Woodgate as the first part of that jigsaw, and it looks like I have not got him," Keegan said after Saturday's FA Cup defeat at Arsenal.

"I think he will go somewhere else. I am not sure where, I think Tottenham and us were the clubs who had bids accepted. It is not an issue over the fee, definitely."
