Arctic Monkeys lead shortlist for British music awards

LONDON (AFP) — The Arctic Monkeys were celebrating Tuesday after the indie rockers from Sheffield received a record seven NME Award nominations, including best album and best track.

Troubled singer Amy Winehouse has been nominated for 'Villain of the Year' alongside Prime Minister Gordon Brown, his predecessor Tony Blair and US President George Bush.

Winehouse who is currently receiving help for a drug addiction, was also nominated for best solo artist, along with chart topper Kate Nash, Jack Penate, Jamie T and Patrick Wolf.

Competing alongside Arctic Monkeys for the coveted best British band are Babyshambles, Wakefield trio The Cribs, nu-ravers Klaxons and prog-rockers Muse.
