ROTTERDAM, The Netherlands (AFP) — Anglo-Dutch food group Unilever said Monday it has signed an agreement to acquire Russian icecream maker Inmarko for an undisclosed amount.

"The acquisition will further strengthen Unilever’s position as the world’s number one ice cream business," the company said in a statement.

Inmarko is the leading ice cream company in Russia with turnover of some 115 million euros (171 million dollars) in 2007 and employs more than 4,500 people.

The transaction is subject to regulatory approval and is expected to be completed in the first half of 2008.
