US very concerned about Chad unrest: White House

WASHINGTON (AFP) — The White House on Tuesday called deadly unrest in Chad very troubling and warned that the international community had "a lot of work to do to help resolve the situation."

"I noted this morning that more people were being able to get free of the violence, but we don't know how long that will last and so we remain very concerned," said spokeswoman Dana Perino.

The violence is "a very troubling situation, and very serious, and we've got a lot of work to do to help resolve the situation," said Perino, who declined to say whether Washington would step up assistance.

"We've provided significant amount of equipment and resources to that region, and call on other countries to help as well," she said, referring to US help to peacekeeping efforts in Sudan's Darfur province.
