TORONTO (AFP) — Toronto Raptors coach Sam Mitchell has taken an indefinite leave of absence for personal reasons, the National Basketball Association team said Monday.
The Toronto Star reported that Mitchell is expected to remain on leave until after this weekend's All-Star break in order to spend time with his family after the death of his father-in-law.
Mitchell was named the NBA Coach of the Year last season after guiding the Raptors to their first Atlantic Division title.
Assistant Mike Evans will be the acting head coach for Monday's game against the San Antonio Spurs.
Fellow assistant Jay Triano will take over on Wednesday against New Jersey.
