Oscar would be welcome payback for 'Blood' team: Day-Lewis

ATHENS (AFP) — British-born actor Daniel Day-Lewis, the star of gritty oil industry epic "There Will be Blood", said Thursday an Oscar statuette would be welcome payback for what was a hard slog of a movie.

"It was over a year before anyone would write a cheque for this movie," Day-Lewis told a news conference in Athens of the film, which has garnered eight Academy Award nominations.

"If we were lucky enough to get one of those things (an Oscar) there would be all kinds of people trying to write a cheque," noted Day-Lewis, whose towering performance as oilman Daniel Plainview has earned him his fourth Academy Award nomination for lead actor.

"The big problem would be that there would be people you wouldn't want to get cheques from," he jibed.
