'Vantage Point' rules box-office

LOS ANGELES (AFP) — Thriller "Vantage Point," reconstructing the assassination of a US president through the eyes of eight witnesses, shot to the top of the North American box office on its opening weekend, final figures showed Monday.

The film, starring William Hurt as the president and Dennis Quaid and Matthew Fox as secret service agents sent to protect him, took top slot with 22.9 million dollars, box-office tracker Exhibitor Relations said.

The film took nearly 10 million dollars more than the second placed film, the children's fantasy "The Spiderwick Chronicles", which earned 13.1 million dollars.

In third place was "Jumper," the Doug Liman fantasy about a teen hero who can teleport himself across the globe in an instant, which earned 12.7 million...
