Eagles open free agent signing period by inking Samuel to NFL

PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania (AFP) — The Philadelphia Eagles opened the National Football League's free agent signing period Friday bin inking highly sought after cornerback Asante Samuel.

Samuel signed a six-year deal with the Eagles that ESPN reported was worth 54 million dollars and could reach 60 million dollars including incentives.

"Obviously, I think the cornerback position is very important," said coach Andy Reid, who already has penciled in Samuel as the starter as left cornerback.

"When you have an opportunity to get the best one in the business, then you need to look at that. I welcome him aboard, and I know (defensive coordinator) Jim Johnson has great plans for Asante. I could easily see him doing what we do on defense when he was on the...
