Giants hurler Lowry to have arm op

SCOTTSDALE, Arizona (AFP) — San Francisco Giants pitcher Noah Lowry will have surgery on Friday to relieve a condition in his throwing wrist, the Major League Baseball club said Thursday.

The lefthander is suffering from exertional compartment syndrome of his left forearm, which occurs when there is high pressure in the forearm that compresses the nerve.

The surgery to release the fascia around the forearm muscles will be performed by doctor Gordon Brody.

Lowry will return to the Giants' spring-training facility at the weekend to begin a rehabilitation program, but his long-term prognosis won't be known until after the procedure.

The diagnosis was made following a number of tests.
