Thatcher taken to London hospital for tests: BBC

LONDON (AFP) — Former British prime minister Margaret Thatcher has been taken to hospital for precautionary tests, the BBC reported Friday.

Thatcher, 82, was driven from her London home to Saint Thomas's Hospital in the capital in the past couple of hours, the broadcaster said, without giving further details of her condition.

Doctors banned Thatcher from public speaking in 2002 and she has suffered a series of minor strokes which figures close to her say have left her with a failing memory.

Nicknamed "the Iron Lady", Britain's first female premier oversaw sweeping changes during her premiership between 1979 and 1990, advocating individualism and cracking down on the influence of trades unions.

She survived a bomb planted by the Irish Republican Army...
