US, NKorean nuclear envoys to meet this week: report

SEOUL (AFP) — Top US and North Korean nuclear envoys will meet in Geneva this week to discuss resuming the deadlocked six-way disarmament talks on the communist nation, a news report said Tuesday.

Seoul's Yonhap news agency, quoting unnamed sources in Washington, said Assistant Secretary of State Christopher Hill would meet with his North Korean counterpart Kim Kye-Gwan on Thursday or Friday.

The bilateral talks would be critical in determining whether the denuclearisation process -- involving the US, both Koreas, China, Russia and Japan -- could move forward, Yonhap said.

"The general atmosphere is positive," one source told Yonhap, without elaborating. "But we still have to wait and see."
