Spain's Amenabar to make second English film after 'The Others'

MADRID (AFP) — Seven years after making acclaimed horror film "The Others" with Nicole Kidman, Oscar-winning Spanish director Alejandro Amenabar is to start shooting his second English-language movie, an epic set in the fourth century.

"Agora", starring British actress Rachel Weisz, will be shot in Malta over 15 weeks starting on Monday, the producers, TeleCinco Cinema, said in a statement Thursday.

The epic will be a new style for the director, whose last film for the big screen was the drama "Mar Adentro" ("The Sea Inside"), the real life story of a quadriplegic and which the won the 2005 Academy Award for best foreign-language film.

Weisz plays Hypatia of Alexandria, a mathematician, astronomer and philosopher of ancient Egypt.
