Fish books semi-final date with Federer at Indian Wells ATP

INDIAN WELLS, California (AFP) — Unseeded American Mardy Fish shocked seventh-seeded Argentinian David Nalbandian Friday to book a semi-final showdown with world number one Roger Federer at the Pacific Life Open.
Fish, ranked 98th in the world, fired 22 aces en route to a 6-3, 6-7 (5/7), 7-6 (7/4) win over seventh-ranked Nalbandian.
Federer advanced to the semi-finals of the 5.7 million-dollar WTA and ATP Masters Series tournament without hitting a shot as Tommy Haas withdrew with a sinus infection.
Federer had been due to take on the unseeded German in the quarter-finals on Friday afternoon.
It was another setback for Haas, a former world number two who is now ranked 36th in the world.
