Hit-man Gomez strikes twice to blitz the Swiss

BASEL, Switzerland (AFP) — Striker Mario Gomez proved he is the man to partner 2006 Golden Boot-winner Miroslav Klose for June's Euro 2008 campaign with two goals in Germany's 4-0 friendly win over Switzerland on Wednesday.

The 22-year-old struck twice in Basel and created Germany's opener for Klose - the top-scorer at the 2006 World Cup - as Germany dominated Switzerland, who will co-host Euro 2008 with Austria.

The result made a mockery of Germany coach Joachim Loew's prediction on Monday that Switzerland are one of the favourites for Euro 2008.
