Baby cough medicines pulled amid overdose fears

LONDON (AFP) — Cough remedies marketed for use on children under two are to be removed from shelves and placed behind pharmacy counters due to fears of accidental overdose.
The Medicine and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has ordered that six products should be removed from open shelves, and that pharmacists should not sell the products to parents who intend to administer the medicine to children aged under 24 months.
The six products that are marketed for use on under-two's are: Asda Children's Chesty Cough Syrup, Calcough Chesty and Boots Chesty Cough Syrup (one year plus), Children's Chesty Cough, Boots sore throat and cough linctus (one year plus) and Buttercup infant cough syrup.
