Angry Loeb slips and slides towards Argentina triumph

CORDOBA, Argentina (AFP) — World champion Sebastien Loeb overcame pouring rain, treacherous mud as well as controversy over tyre choice to ease closer to a fourth successive win in the Rally of Argentina on Saturday.

The Citroen driver finished the second day 1min 19sec ahead of Petter Solberg in a Subaru with the second Subaru driver Chris Atkinson of Australia a place further back, 2min 8sec off the pace.

"The conditions were really tricky with the rain, the mud and the rule which forces us to drive on hard tyres. It's really dangerous," said the Frenchman.

Loeb was referring to the hard-compound Pirelli tyres and their effectiveness in wet driving conditions.
