Australian Olympic swimmer charged with assault

SYDNEY (AFP) — Australian Olympic swimmer Nick D'Arcy was Monday charged with assault following an investigation into a fight at a Sydney nightspot, reports said.
Former Commonwealth swimming champion Simon Cowley suffered a broken jaw and broken nose in the incident in the early hours of Sunday.
Without naming D'Arcy, police said a 20-year-old Queensland man had been arrested at City Central Police Station, but media reports identified him as D'Arcy.
The man had been interviewed and charged with assault occasioning grievous bodily harm, police said in a statement. He was granted conditional bail to appear in court on April 21.
