US baseball makes major internet push into China: report

NEW YORK (AFP) — Major League Baseball has made a licensing deal for a new web site in China that will expand Chinese-language internet offerings of US highlights and games, the New York Times reported Monday.
The new web site springing from the deal between BroadWebAsia and MLB Advanced Media would offer scores, photographs, statistics, video highlights and games with online forums, chat areas, merchandise sales.
Rules of the sport would also be explained to newcomers as China becomes an area where US owners see great growth potential, thanks in part to a Chinese team taking part in the sport at the Beijing Olympics.
