US truck drivers stage strikes to protest high fuel costs

CHICAGO (AFP) — Frustrated independent truck drivers staged scattered strikes across the United States Tuesday to protest high fuel costs.
"We've got trucks all over the nation that are either in convoys or shutting down," said Dan Little, an independent livestock hauler whose call to action quickly spread through online forums, word of mouth and CB radios.
Thousands of truckers have contacted Little in the weeks since he announced the April 1 strike on his website.
He doesn't know how many of them parked their rigs in protest on Tuesday but said his phone has been ringing off the hook with reports of independent trucker drivers parking their rigs to draw attention to their plight.
