Canadian mint unveils first gold, silver bullion Olympic coins

OTTAWA (AFP) — The Royal Canadian Mint on Wednesday introduced the world's first gold and silver bullion coins promoting the spirit of the Olympic Games.

The Mint said in a statement it would produce up to 50,000 coins in gold for the 2008 issue, as well as silver coins on demand, with permission from the International Olympic Committee.

Two more issues will follow in 2009, and 2010, just in time for Canada's hosting of the Winter Games in Vancouver.
