Suicide truck bomb kills seven in northern Iraq

BAGHDAD (AFP) — At least seven civilians were killed in an attack by a suicide truck bomber on an Iraqi army checkpoint near the northern city of Mosul, an Iraqi military official said on Thursday.
The attack took place late on Wednesday near Adayaa, 25 kilometres (15 miles) southwest of Mosul, Brigadier General Khaled Abdul Sattar, a spokesman for the Iraqi army, told AFP.
"Seven civilians were killed and 12 people were wounded, many of them soldiers," he said.
The US military had earlier reported five people dead in what it said was a car bomb explosion.
Mosul is the focus of a major military operation by Iraqi and US forces against Al-Qaeda in Iraq fighters.
