Sprint world champion Gay to open season in Jamaica

KINGSTON (AFP) — Double world sprint champion Tyson Gay will launch his 2008 Olympic athletics season at the Jamaica International Invitation meeting on May 3.

Gay, who beat Bahamian Derrick Atkins and world record holder Asafa Powell of Jamaica for the 100m world title in Osaka last year, will open in the 200m in Kingston, his coach Lance Brauman confirmed.

"For the past two years, Tyson opened up there with the 200m, and at this point in time, the plan is very much the same ... and that's to run the 200m at that meet," Brauman said of Gay, who also won the 200m and 4x100m gold in Osaka.

"The focus on our training right now, to this point has being on the US Championships, with in mind to run the very best at the Olympic," Brauman said on a local radio...
