Hoff collects third gold at Columbus swim meet

COLUMBUS (AFP) — US Olympian Katie Hoff won the 400 metre individual medley to earn her third gold medal during the Toyota Grand Prix meet Saturday at the Ohio State University pool.
American world record-holding trio of Michael Phelps, Brendan Hansen and Aaron Peirsol also won their events.
The 18-year-old Hoff won the medley with a time of four minutes, 34.49 seconds. She finished nine seconds ahead Kaitlin Sandeno who took silver in 4:43.66 and Courtney Kalisz in third in 4:47.36.
On the men's side, Phelps, the reigning world record-holder, outpaced the field by over three seconds to take gold in the 400 metre medley in 4:13.73.
Erik Vendt was second in 4:17.07, followed by US World University Games gold medalist Pat Mellors who clocked 4:27.25....
