MILWAUKEE, Wisconsin (AFP) — Chinese rookie forward Yi Jianlian of the Milwaukee Bucks will miss the remainder of the National Basketball Association season with a sprained left knee ligament.
Yi suffered the injury in Milwaukee's victory last Wednesday at Washington and underwent an MRI exam that showed he needs two to three weeks of rest and rehabilitation before returning to the court, Bucks player personnel director Dave Babcock said.
The NBA season ends April 16 and the Bucks will not be among the 16 teams to reach the championship playoffs.
Yi played in 66 games, starting 49 times, and averaged 8.6 points and 5.2 rebounds in 25 minutes a night. He scored a season-high 29 points in Milwaukee's 103-99 victory over Charlotte on December 22.
