NEWCASTLE, England (AFP) — Newcastle chairman Chris Mort believes Michael Owen will be convinced to stay at St James' Park by the team's renaissance under Kevin Keegan.

Owen, 28, has been instrumental in Newcastle's recent resurgence, scoring four goals in four games after an injury-ravaged start to the campaign.

But the England striker's future on Tyneside is far from certain and he was linked with moves to Liverpool and Manchester City earlier this season.

The former Real Madrid star is out of contract next season and Mort is keen to tie him to a long-term deal.

"I think all the players are enjoying playing under Kevin - you can see that in the way they play," Mort said. "I would imagine Michael was in that camp as well.
