France hit by Gasquet absence

WINSTON-SALEM, North Carolina (AFP) — France will be without their number one player Richard Gasquet for Friday's opening singles in their Davis Cup quarter-final clash with the United States.

Gasquet has been complaining about blisters on his right hand and his absence provides captain Guy Forget with a fresh headache following the defection 24 hours hours earlier of Australian Open finalist Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

In this pair's absence France will now be represented by Paul-Henri Mathieu and Michael Llodra on Friday with Forget having the possibility of recalling Gasquet for Sunday's reverse singles.
