MANCHESTER (AFP) — Britain's Liam Tancock and in-form Ryan Lochte eased through the 100m Individual Medley heats at the World short-course Championships in Manchester on Saturday.
Tancock, who won the hosts' first title in the 100m backstroke, qualified from the heats with the second fastest time behind American Lochte, who has already won gold in the 200m and 400m.
With Australia's Leith Brodie and Slovenia's Peter Mankoc, the winner of the 100m butterfly, also through to the semi-final stage, Sunday's final looks set to have a particularly strong field.
The American, Nathan Adrian qualified in the quickest time in the heats for the men's 100m freestyle but the fastest swimmer on entry times, the Pole Lukasz Gasior, failed to reach the final 16.
