TBILISI (AFP) — Ex-Soviet Georgia on Monday accused Russia of committing "an act of aggression" after alleging that a Russian fighter jet shot down an unmanned Georgian plane over the weekend.

"On April 20, 2008 the Russian Federation committed an act of aggression against Georgia," Deputy Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze told journalists.

"At 9:53 local time a Russian MiG-29 aircraft took off from the illegally occupied Gudauta military base (in Abkhazia) and downed an unmanned plane of the Georgian interior ministry. At 10:06 the aircraft returned to Russian airspace."
