NEW YORK (AFP) — Avery Johnson probably won't be out of work for long, with the New York Knicks and Chicago Bulls reportedly expressing interest just a day after he was sacked as coach of the Dallas Mavericks.
The New York Daily News reported Thursday that Johnson, fired by the Mavs on Wednesday, has been added to the Knicks' list of coaching candidates.
New York is looking for a successor to Isiah Thomas, who was sacked by new president Donnie Walsh after the Knicks finished 23-59 to match the worst record in franchise history.
According to the newspaper, Walsh is targeting several head coaches and assistant coaches of playoff teams to interview but will not make contact with any of them until their seasons end.
