Al-Jazeera cameraman returns home from Guantanamo

KHARTOUM (AFP) — A Sudanese cameraman with the Arab satellite news channel Al-Jazeera arrived home early Friday after being detained without charge for six years at the Guantanamo US military prison.

A US air force plane carrying Sami al-Haj landed at a state security terminal in Khartoum, an AFP photographer witnessed.

He was greeted by his family before being whisked away to hospital for medical checks, the photographer said.

Haj, who was held without charge at the US detention camp in Cuba, was flown in along with two other Sudanese nationals also detained at Guantanamo, Al-Jazeera said.
