Lorenzo's China motorcycle race in doubt after crash

SHANGHAI (AFP) — Spanish rookie sensation Jorge Lorenzo's China Moto GP hopes were thrown into doubt Friday after he injured his ankles in a heavy crash during a practice session for the race.
Lorenzo, riding a Fiat Yamaha, was taken to hospital after an initial examination at the track showed he may have fractured a bone in his ankle, almost certainly ending his bid for victory in Shanghai, the fourth race of the season.
"He hit both ankles quite hard so he has quite a lot of pain in both of them, but the bad one is the right one," said Katie Baines, a spokeswoman for the Fiat Yamaha team.
"There may be a very small fracture in the right foot," she said, adding that she did not know if Lorenzo would be able to ride in Sunday's race.
