Yankees catcher Posada to miss five weeks

NEW YORK (AFP) — New York Yankees catcher Jorge Posada won't need immediate surgery on his injured right shoulder, but he will miss at least five weeks as it heals, the 14-year Major League Baseball veteran said Friday.
Three doctors examined MRI results and concluded that Posada can avoid surgery until the end of the season by resting.
Posada was examined by doctor James Andrews on Monday, and New York Mets medical director doctor David Altchek agreed with his diagnosis. The last opinion came from Cincinnati Reds team doctor Timothy Kremchek on Friday.
Posada, who was placed on the disabled list for the first time in his career on Monday, was ordered to avoid any baseball activities for at least the next two weeks.
